Commercial Spaces – It’s All About Functional Design
One of the many challenges when designing a retail space is that there are so many components and elements to consider. Much more so than in a home, for example. In home design, we use the creative vison of the homeowner and work together to build out their dream space. In retail, while we use many of the same practices, there are also the elements that must reflect the customer experience.
The space must not only be visually appealing, but it also must have cohesive functionality. The customer must simultaneously feel comfortable and inspired. The space must also be able to evolve over time so that changes can be made easily and efficiently without disrupting the overall design and theme of the retail model.
I work closely with my clients to determine what the outcome of the project should look and feel like. We want the retail space to be unique and impeccably planned to maximize the space to the fullest capability. That is when the real work begins.
One of the most important aspects of any project is the ability to work in conjunction with architects, engineers, craftsmen and other professionals. I take a lot of pride in my preparation and work ethic and bring that to each project. I coordinate with everyone involved to create and build out the ideal retail environment that best fulfills the visions set out by my clients.
Design consistency must reflect your personality, complete your vision and draw the interest and attention of your customers.
Purposeful and Consistent
One of my main goals as an interior designer is to create purposeful, functional and coherent projects for my clients.
In today’s market, creating a satisfying, over-the-top customer experience is more important than ever. While more and more consumers are looking for the convenience of online shopping, it is even more imperative that the customer have a purpose and inert desire to enter the retail establishment. With restaurants, the importance of design, function and customer experience is tantamount to the success of the restaurant. Just as much, or, in some instances, more so than the food itself.
Where do the customers come from? What are they looking for? How do we convert walk-ins to sales? How do we pull customers off the street and into our establishment?
I begin the process by utilizing in-depth consumer demographics. After close analysis of the data, I translate it into a practical approach to designing a multisensory and impactful experience developed to facilitate the sale of any product or service.
One of my objectives is to create an environment where the customer feels relaxed and comfortable. As if they are walking into their own home and reclining on their favorite sofa. By making the retail space warm, inviting and interesting, the more likely the customer or guest is likely to purchase, return repeatedly and refer the business to friends and family. The sincerest form of flattery is the referral of your business.
